How do I use Helpful?
How do I see or update my profile?
Tap on the small picture of yourself in the upper right of the home directory screen. Tap on the ⚙️ to update your profile.
How do I update my profile photo?
From your profile page, tap ⚙️. Tap 'Edit your profile', then tap 'Add a new photo'. Choose to take a photo with your camera or upload one from your camera roll. When a photo is chosen, you can crop, save, and - voila! - you’re done.
How do I change my profile information?
From your profile page, tap ⚙️. Tap 'Edit your profile'. You can tap into each row that has an arrow and edit your information.
Why can't I change some of my profile information?
Some HR departments request that only they be able to edit certain information such as name, location, email, and title. If you need something changed, just search Helpful for your HR representative and let them know.
What can I do?
How do I find people I work with?
Helpful makes it easy to get to know your company and your colleagues. Tap the search bar at the top of the home screen and type a name, department, location, skill, project name, or a feature like glasses, beard, or hair colour. You can also scroll through the directory and pick the face you recognize. People are arranged alphabetically.
How do I contact someone?
From the home directory screen or from search results, tap the photo of the person you want to contact. That person's profile will pop up allowing you to press the appropriate icon to contact them through phone, text (SMS), email, and Slack (if your company makes it available to you).
What does it mean when a contact method is greyed out?
If a person has a greyed out contact method like phone, text, or email, this means they have not connected this form of communication yet. Tap a greyed out icon to send them a nudge to update their information.
How do I see the org chart?
Swipe to the left of the home screen.
How do I play Flashcards?
Swipe to the right of the home screen.
Why do I have to authorize Helpful to use Slack every time I try it?
When Helpful updates from the App Store, the existing Slack connection is broken which means you have to authorize again. Slack requires this feature to keep your data safe.
My home directory screen is blank
Try quitting Helpful and opening it again. On iOS, you can quit an app by pressing the home button twice and swiping the app up. On Android you can open your app switcher and swipe the app away.
Search is slow
Check your network connection then resend your search. Sometimes a slow connection can interrupt a search.
That person doesn't work here anymore!
We keep Helpful as up-to-date as possible, but for a few days after an employee’s departure they may remain in the directory. Just let your HR department know and we will update the directory.
I don't want to show people my phone number
We get it, nobody wants to get a call from work on the weekends. With Helpful, we strive to offer you the most transparent workplace directory, which means everyone can see your number and you can see everyone else's number.
Someone keeps messaging me, but I can't see their name
Unfortunately that is a limitation of iOS and Android, not something we can control through Helpful.
