It is said that hamstring muscles are a key factor to your body's well being and posture and although these may seem like small details; they are actually very important, which is why it is important to always look after your hamstring muscles when conducting any physical activity.
As we begin to grow older a large majority of people suffer with tired aching tight legs from the top to bottom. They also suffer from back pains which can further progress into a serious problem. Both of these conditions stem from tight hamstring muscles either caused naturally through the ageing process or by a lack of care when exercising.
Why we develop pains and problems
- It is important that your hamstring muscles are loose and stretched because if they are tight they can lead to many problems in the future, such as leg and back pains. Poorly cared for hamstrings can make simple tasks such walking up and down the stairs a painful experience. These problems occur because the all the muscles in the back of the leg are linked, so if your hamstrings are tight and sore they can affect other muscles, such as the calf muscle. All these tight muscles puts a lot of pressure on your body, especially your back.
How we can take care of our hamstrings?
- To start you need to make sure the muscle isn't tight, which can be down through stretching. To see improvements you must stretch past your comfort zone as this will help loosen your hamstrings and gradually reduce pressure to other leg muscles and your back. To see long term progressions you must stretch at least three to four times a week for half an hour at a time, this should be done before, during and after any physical activity that requires you to use your hamstring muscles. After about six weeks of stretching you should start to see a big difference when completing simple and complex activities and slowly but surely you will improve your body’s future well being.
