Jean Skirts - Great Fashion Tips

Jean skirts are one of those classic items of clothing that have stood the test of time and can be worn by girls and women of all age groups and from every walk of life.

Although denim material is typically thought of as a casual fabric, it can actually be dressed up or dressed down. The key to looking situation appropriate is in the length and wash. Both of these factors contribute to whether jean skirts have a more formal or casual appearance.

Length
When it comes to jean skirts, nothing is more important than the length. Mini-skirts should only be worn by younger girls, teenagers and college students, unless you are a supermodel with mile-long legs. This age group can get away with tossing on a simple tank top and flip flops for a trip to the mall or to class. More mature women will simply look trashy if they attempt to wear jean skirts that go more than an inch above the knee. A good rule of thumb is that the skirt should be no shorter than fingertip length. More mature women often pair a mid-calf length or ankle-length skirt with tennis shoes, a cotton shirt and cardigan for trips to the store, while women in their mid-20's to mid-50's seem to favor a length that hovers slightly above or below the knee. They might pair it with sandals, a chiffon shirt and gold jewelry.

Wash
The wash, or color, of jean skirts determine whether they are best suited for a trip to the beach or a day of work. To wear jean skirts for more formal situations, such as to work, school or dinner out with the family, opt for a darker wash or even black, which is also more slimming than the paler versions. Pair low-heeled pumps or knee-high boots with a silk top and fitted blazer to minimize the laid-back vibe. Jean skirts with a light wash or those that are dyed white, will look fashionable for more relaxed locations, when worn with sling-back sandals, a form-fitting t-shirt, printed scarf and lightweight cotton jacket.
