Ideas on What to Do When It's Raining

A day of raining need not be dreary and frustrating, when it can be transformed into an eventful and pleasant one by sharing a few fun activities with friends and family, either at home or out and about.

Staring out into the downpour, you suddenly have a burning desire to do all the outdoor activities you have neglected for the past few weeks and options for indoor fun suddenly seem extremely limited. But the fact that it is raining need not be a sentence to boredom! There are many activities to do alone, with your family or with friends, both at home and out and about, on a rainy day.

Catching Up on Some To-do's

  • Being the productive member of society that you are, you could use this time to do something that you have neglected in the past. You could spend some time clearing out old files on your computer, reorganizing your desktop and so on.
  • Maybe your closet needs some cleaning out. This gives you the opportunity to finally donate that old sports jacket, jogging shoes, or those too-tight-around-the-waist T-Shirts to your local Salvation Army. Maybe the endless raining could offer you an excuse to catch up on that stack of saucy romance novels.

Whip Out the Board Games

  • If you have the good fortune of not being trapped alone, you could dig out the trusty old chess set that you have been carrying around since high school. If chess is not your cup of tea or there are more than two inmates, nothing reminds you of how little general knowledge you actually possess than an entertaining game of Trivial Pursuit. Splitting your troop up into groups and stumbling through a game of 30 Seconds or Charades always provides loads of fun. If you have way too much time on your hands, then Monopoly is surely the way to go.

Get Out of the House

  • Go outside for some wet adventures! When realizing and accepting the fact that rain will not hurt you, and of course provided that the raining is not of monsoon magnitude, you could venture outdoors for a bit of innocent fun. Taking a romantic walk with your significant other through the soft pattering rain could help you both appreciate each other a little more. Having a puddle splashing war on the front lawn with the kids could be quality bonding time while burning off a few extra calories.
  • If the thought of staying around the house is too much to bare, you could hop in the car and head to a mall. Here you could find a plethora of activities to keep you and your family busy. Go to a movie, play laser tag, go bowling, or go shopping while it is raining. If you would like to burn more than the couple of calories you would have bouncing from puddle to puddle on your front lawn, you could visit the gym for an aerobic session to The Weather Girls' It's Raining Men!
