Unscrew the two screws on the back of the Pavilion holding the left hand panel in place using a Philips Head screwdriver. Remove the left hand panel. Find the fan located on the processor heat sink near the center of the motherboard and unplug the fan. Remove the screws holding the heat sink in place unclipping any retaining bars that may be present attaching the heat sink to the processor socket. Lift the fan and heat sink out of the computer case and clean using thermal paste remover and a soft cotton cloth to remove any unwanted residue.

- Wipe any excess thermal paste remover off the fan with the cotton cloth and apply a small amount of new thermal paste to the center of the processor, leaving a pea sized portion on the processor’s top. Position the replacement fan and heat sink over the processor and lower into place. Squash the unit down to spread the thermal paste and secure in place using the screws previously removed. Replace the left hand side panel and screw back onto the back unit and place the computer upright and reattach the power supply. Press the on button to restart the computer with the fan speed being controlled automatically as the computer needs it.
