Installing a cold air intake in an automatic car improves performance and is easier to do than you may think with just a few simple steps to follow.
Installing a cold air intake in an automatic car can help improve your vehicle's performance. A cold air intake replaces the air box with a larger diameter round tubing along with a cone filter that is isolated from the heat of the engine bay. Cold air is thicker and more oxygen dense than warm air, allowing the engine to run more efficiently.
Connecting the first piece of intake tubing
- The first step is to remove the rubber clamp from the throttle body using a flat headed screwdriver. Then unclasp the air box by removing the latches and taking it out. Take the mass air flow off of the intake tube using a torx screwdriver and remove the air hose from the intake tubing. Put the straight cold air intake tubing into the throttle body using a rubber coupling with a clasping ring to fix it into place and tighten using the flat headed screwdriver. Remember, when fitting a cold air intake in an automatic car to keep any parts you remove in case the system doesn't work.
Connecting the second piece of intake tubing
- The next step in installing a cold air intake in an automatic is to connect the next piece of tubing to the first piece of the cold air intake and again secure using a rubber coupling and clasping ring system tightening as before. Insert the Mass Air Flow sensor into the correct location on the second intake tube, the place where it will best fit, and fix in place using the torx screwdriver and reconnect the air hose.
Connecting the third piece of intake tubing
- The final step in installing a cold air intake in an automatic is to connect the third piece of the intake tubing, which bends down into the fender, securely to the second piece. Finally, slide the air filter onto the intake tube and tighten a clasping ring around the base of the air filter securing it to the intake piping remembering to keep the air filter away from the engine and other moving parts.
Further improvements and safety concerns
- After the initial installation of the cold air intake in an automatic it is possible to add a heat shield by following the manufacturer's directions to further improve the cold air flow and improve engine performance. Remember to make sure to remove the negative terminal on the car battery as this allows you to work on the car without risk of shock, similarly let the engine cool fully before you wok on it.
