Lifestyle Changes And Supplements
- Any woman who is considering getting pregnant should consult with a health professional regarding their optimum weight. Carrying too much or not enough weight, can affect the ovulation cycle and the regularity of periods. Consequently, this irregularity can limit fertility. Carrying too much weight around the midriff and stomach area, can also adversely affect hormonal balance and subsequent fertility.
- Studies also suggest that a woman has a much greater chance of conceiving within six months, if she limits her alcohol intake to a maximum of five units per week, which is five small glasses.
- Other studies also show that smokers have lower levels of the nutrients needed for successful fertility, such as zinc, solenium and vitamin C. Higher levels of these nutrients significantly increase the likelihood of conception.
- Women who are planning to have a baby should also take a folic acid supplement at least three months before trying to conceive. This supplement will greatly reduce the risk of the baby developing certain conditions such as spina bifida.
