How To Build A Wire Fence

Barbed Wire fences are inexpensive to build and are an extremely practical way of preventing intruders from gaining access to your property, however, as with most building projects, it is important to find easy to follow building instructions for wire fences.

The building materials needed for a wire fence are relatively inexpensive, however you will not need a lot of expensive tools for the job. It is also important to have comprehensive building instructions for wire fences to help you with your project. The height of the fence is optional, however, if it is to low, intruders will be able to climb over the top. Therefore, building a fence which is approximately 6 foot high, should be sufficient.

What You Will Need

  • Equipment needed to build the fence includes, easy to follow building instructions for wire fences, appropriate length of barbed wire, wire cutters, wooden fence posts, mallet, staples and heavy duty gardening or building gloves. All of these should be available from your local heardware store.

Erecting The Fence

  • Firstly, measure the parameter of the boundary you wish to build and multiply that length by three. Next, decide how many fence posts will be needed, as they should be approximately 8 feet apart. When using three rows of wire, the fence posts should be approximately 6 feet high.
  • Dig a hole approximately 20 inches deep. Insert the first post into the whole and then tightly pack the soil around the post, until it is stable and fixed securely into the ground.
  • Hammer each post from the top until you are confident that they are firmly in place. Take the roll of wire and staple to the post, at the point where you want the upper wire to be. Moving to the next post, staple the wire at the same height.
  • Continue onto each post, keeping the wire taut and at exactly the same height. Using the same method, move from post to post, and staple the second row of wire into place, again, holding the wire as taut as possible. Continue until the third row of wire is in place. If desired, wire meshing can be attached to the base of the fence, which will keep small animals from passing through.
