Good Tips for Fast Typing

Fast typing is a skill which truly benefits the productiveness and efficiency of those who can do it, and it is often envied by those who are not yet as proficient. Luckily this is a skill which can be learned and improved by anyone who has the patience and time to take on the challenge.

Start Gradually

• If one wants to develop skills of fast typing, one must naturally first learn the 'ins and outs' of the keyboard. The best way to begin is by getting very familiar with where the letters are. You first need to be able to type slowly and at a consistent speed. To develop your typing you will therefore need to keep focused on the keyboard. Try looking at the keyboard for a sentence and then looking up to see if it is correct. Then try two sentences, and three, and before you know it you will have typed a paragraph without any mistakes.
• When you are confident enough to look away from the keyboard to type, you will then need to slow down your typing and build up. Even if you can type very fast looking at the keyboard, touch typing is completely different. 

Honing the Skill

• One must always remember that accuracy is essential. It doesn’t matter how fast you can type if you have to keep going back and making changes. It takes twice as long to type anything if you have to constantly change misspelled words, so take your time and focus on getting the words right before trying to type fast.
• Be sure to master common words. There are always words that will come up whenever you type, so to improve your typing learn where the letters to these words are. Examples of such words that will always come up are ‘the’, ‘so’, and ‘yes’, so take the time to learn how to type these out quickly and without error.
• If you regularly type for a particular reason, for University for instance, then you can learn how to type out specific words that you will always use. For subjects like biology, you will master fast typing if you are confident in typing scientific words that often come up.
• The only way to improve your typing is to just keep practicing and you will be typing quickly before you realize it.
