Electronic Diary Vs. Paper Diary

In this day and age the computer has become central to our lives and people use the internet to share their every thought, but for many, keeping a diary has not lost its attractiveness.

Instead of the old fashioned paper diary, many people make use of an electronic diary or a public, online one. They start their own blog where personal interests, ideas and opinions can be expressed. Even when the diary is kept strictly offline in a word document it has great upsides that seem to trump the physical alternative.

Pros of an Electronic Diary
The electronic diary has two major upsides: it is virtually infinite and cannot get into the wrong hands as easily. It is not unique and physically bound to a location and can thus be copied numerous times to keep back ups in case the computer crashes. The computer, or the account, in case the computer is shared with someone else, can be password protected which means there is no risk that someone might get to the most personal item of yours.

Cons of an Electronic Diary
On the other side of the coin an electronic diary lacks the aesthetic and traditional feeling of a beautifully bound and often hand-crafted diary. An electronic diary cannot fulfil the need for something so personal and important. Every letter is forever and every word is chosen carefully while the electronic version can be edited at any time even after two years when you might want to erase everything.

Conclusion
At the end of the day it completely depends on the character of the person: if you can appreciate opening a leather diary and flip through your past months; a paper diary is worth the time, but if you value content over form and need something mobile or time-saving than an electronic diary, online or offline, is the perfect choice.
