Buying and Mounting the Best Bicycle Headlights

Buying and attaching the best bicycle headlights is not a complicated process, although it always helps to have a little mechanical know-how to ensure that everything is done correctly.

When purchasing a bicycle headlight, a consumer needs to consider the brightness, the frames it fits, how it is powered and the area on the bike where they will mount it. Most manufacturers of bicycle headlights have the unit mount on the handlebars. Ideally this should be near the fork to enable the rider full control of the bike's steering mechanism.

Brightness
Brightness is an important consideration when it comes to buying bicycle lights. Bicycle headlights illuminate the rider's path, but they also provide another important function in allowing oncoming cars, motorcycles, trucks and other vehicles to clearly see riders at night. The final concern is how the light is powered. Solar models charge the battery during the day which lets the lights run at night.

Mounting the Best Bicycle Headlights
Mounting bicycle headlights is not a difficult task. At most, you need a wrench. When you purchase a headlight it often comes with padding to shore up any weak spots in its mount. Place the brackets over the handlebars and insert the padding if you need to. Adjust the padding so there is a firm hold on the grip. Take out the nut and bolt from the package and screw the bolt and nut on by hand. When the bolts can no longer be tightened by hand, use two wrenches. Use one to keep the nut or bolt from moving. Use the other wrench to finish the adjustment. If the process is done properly, the headlight should not come off. Even the best bicycle headlights provide no measure of safety if they fall to the ground. Install the batteries in the unit and try the headlight out. The best bicycle headlights may or may not include a generator to provide the light's power source.
